With the new iOS 8 release, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is on its way with the Moto G and Moto X being one of the first few smartphones to run on upcoming the OS. When it comes to updating phones to the latest operating system versions, Motorola has the reputation of being very quick and staying on top of the game. At a time when the whole world is talking about the latest Android version, Motorola went ahead and made an announcement that its two phones are among the update’s first few recipients.

What the Updated OS Will Bring

The Android 5 of Google was introduced on October 15 which will be the biggest update of the operating system since its debut in the mobile OS in 2008. The update will bring with Material Design which is a totally new offering to provide a colorful interface to its user. It will also offer lock screen notifications, quick settings, dynamic status, a revamped notifications panel, document-centered multitasking, ART runtime and a 64-bit processor support just to name a few. The Android users can also expect more realistic animations and shadows in the Android 5.0 Lollipop together with a battery life saving mode which promises an extra 90 minutes of duration for the user of the device with the latest Android version installed on it.

Motorola Devices That Will Receive the Update

Among those that the manufacturer has confirmed which will get the update are the following: Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini.

According to Motorola, the updates on its other devices will be dependent on its partners and it noted that it would not stop keeping its avid users an update as to its plans in the future through its ‘update status’ page.

If you want to know if your device is eligible for update to Android 5.0 Lollipop or not, you can check it through your phone’s Notifications panel which should bring a system update message. In case you don’t receive a notification, simply check for software update by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check Now. If you received a notification and you want to do the update yourself, just tap the message then choose Download Now and select Install Now. Your smartphone will then restart and install the latest OS version.
