Google Chrome OS- What Lies in the Future of This Free Download

by GH Staff

Google released the Chromebook in the year 2009, which refers to a kind of laptop which runs on the Chrome OS created by the company. All the information is stored on the Cloud.

The idea of utilizing the Cloud instead of the system’s hard drive in order to store information, stemmed out of Google’s thought process. Unfortunately the Chrome OS has not yet been able to gain the expected success in the market. However, most of the experts have not lost hope and are certain that the operating system will be able to revive in the near future.

Definition and working of Chromebooks

The Chromebook is basically a laptop which works on the Chrome OS and is devoid of all the attractive options found in other operating systems. Since there is no hard drive present within this laptop, it is very light in weight. All your work can be done only by using the web. Chrome OS stores the user’s songs, videos, files and all other important information within the Google Drive. The main intention of Google in making the Chrome operating system was to eliminate the need of normal laptops and provide users with an easier and enriched web experience. They were available at a very cheap price with the added advantage of low maintenance cost. Additionally, there is no need to install any anti-virus protection softwarebecause Chrome OS has an in-built software for that purpose. Only if there is a hard drive will there arise the need for any maintenance.

Is there any chance of its revival?

Amazon.com suggests that Chromebooks are suited to be one of the top contenders on their bestselling list of laptops. If reports are to be believed, many top makers of laptops will be promoting the Chromebook by trading them on their online stores. All top makers except Apple will be part of this kind of promotion. Some of the manufacturers are Dell, Sony, HP, Lenovo etc. Statistics show that the sales of Google Chrome OS in the market has increased from 1% in 2009 to 9.6% currently. Even though this is not a great thing, it still shows that the operating system is slowly increasing in popularity.

Features of Chromebook

As mentioned before, Chromebook has very low maintenance cost and hopes to alter the way by which people use the web for computing purposes. Since it does not contain any hard drive at all, the users are left with very less space for storing their files. Also, it is a web-based operating system, which means that you can never do any work without the help of the internet. The operating system is clever enough to manage any web-based query by the user. All the necessary updates are also done on an automatic basis without any input from user. It also makes sure that you have a back-up of all your vital information on the internet in case of future loss of data.

Verdict

Chromebook has to be provided a chance to become successfully because of its low cost and easy maintenance.
