Everybody loves Pikmin, those loveable little scamps that live in the ground and help Olimar carry stuff around. What you may not know is that Shigeru Miyamoto, disappointed with the technical limitations of the Wii U being unable to show a vast number of Pikmin or really focus in on Pikmin behaviour, had directed animated Pikmin shorts that premiered today at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
The three Pikmin shorts, entitled “The Night Juicer,” “Occupational Hazards,” and “Treasures in a Bottle” will soon be making their way over to the Nintendo 3DS, though as of right now it is unclear if they will be free or in 3D. The storyboards for the films, which range from 8-12min long, were created by Shigeru Miyamoto in Flipnote 3DS, and animated by an external animation company. The models of the characters are based on those in Pikmin 3, but are mostly new as the rendering is much sharper than the Wii U is capable of.
You can view a trailer for the shorts onĀ Nintendo Everything.
