The Android Messenger App is In: Is Google Hangouts Out?

Just recently, Google announced its Android Messenger App which is included in Nexus 6 as part of the forthcoming update Android 5.0 Lollipop. Now, will this be a replacement to the well-loved Google Hangouts?  With so many new features and applications that Google offers already, a lot of users are wondering why they are seeing some new popups around their Google Hangouts. More and more users are looking for a confirmation if the new occurrences are signs that the company has plans to eliminate the Hangouts already and have it swapped with a new mobile messaging service.

One of the biggest concerns of Google Hangouts users are the delivery of the Android Messenger App with Nexus 6 but Google said in one of its announcements that this isn’t the case for the time being. What does this mean? This is a guarantee that Google Hangouts would still be there but there’s no assurance that it would still be there in the future.

The Android Messenger App is In: Is Google Hangouts Out?The new messenger application will not be a replacement but a different, simple app that will allow fast and easy sending and receiving of MMS and SMS. To clear up the confusion between the two applications, Google released a statement to explain the new software’s role for devices that run on Android OS. According to Google, Hangouts and Messenger will allow users a choice with each one offering its own promising benefits.

If you’re one of the many who are confused with which app to use between the two choices, just keep in mind that Google Hangouts will prove as the perfect choice for cross platform use like iOS, Android and Web as well as cross-medium communication like SMS, video and voice. The Android Messenger App on the other hand is specifically design for casual mobile users as a swift and simple way of exchanging SMS and MMS using the Android operating system.

The bottom line in this Google update is that Hangouts will remain for now and the Android Messenger App will be there too offering an easy way for casual mobile users to stay in touch with their friends and family. What Hangouts will do is just continue to offer a far greater experience for its users but there is no assurance that it’s going to stay within the Google software for a long time.
