Honestly, who couldn’t love Earthbound after spending some time with it?
The game’s a charming, quirky little emotional masterpiece, even if it is a bit relaxed or lacking concerning RPG gameplay. Earthbound’s one of those games you need to play to get, but once you do, chances are you’ll end up just as obsessessed as the fans who started this kooky Kickstarter.
Essentially, the guys over at fangamer are putting together the ultimate Earthbound package, complete with a 90-page handbook, documentary about Earthbound fandom in the West, a music album, and a “Zine” filled with “fan-made art and stories.”
While I’m always a bit repulsed by sentences with both “fan made art and stories” and “money” in them, this seems like a pretty good deal for fans of Ness’ grand coming-of-age story. It’s like the media and marketing that American audiences never got.
