WWE 2K15 PS3/360 Review

Watcha ya gonna do brother, when the 24″ pythons and WWE 2K15 run wild on you! Taking the catch phrase from Bad News Barret “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.”. All the new gameplay mechanics you have read about over the last few months. Sadly are exclusive for the current gen version of WWE 2K15. The last gen version of WWE 2K15 is bare bone roster update of WWE 2K14. Last gen users can expect the exact same gameplay and controls featured in WWE 2K14. PS3 and 360 users will notice missing features such as story designer and custom CAW entrances. The only options for your CAWs entrance are existing superstars or one generic entrance with your superstar talking on a cell phone. Custom soundtracks have been removed as well, along with create a finisher. Universe mode feels untouched and the story lines still feel like they have no rhyme or reason. The removal of modes, unchanged gameplay from WWE 2K14, all feels like one giant step backwards.

WWE 2K15 last gen does have its positives. While the gameplay is exactly the same as last year, I noticed the gameplay mechanics run smoother. The majority of mocap wrestling moves look very clean and crisp. 2K and Yuke’s managed to actually put some effort and detail into the graphics, an area that THQ often neglected in previous titles. Ultimate Warrior actually has long glorious hair opposed to last years bee hive hair. While the graphics are a small minor improvement at least it’s a positive. Lets move onto Showcase and Who Got NXT.

Showcase offers two scenario rivalries to play through, HHH vs HBK and John Cena Vs Cm Punk. Basically Showcase works much like WWE 2K14’s 30 Years of Wrestle Mania. Playing through matches, completing objectives, watching documentary clips, unlocking collectables such as hidden superstars, is what you will be experiencing through Showcase.What I loved about Showcase were the cut scenes done with in-game models. Especially the lengthy cut scenes such as HHH assaulting HBK’s lower back with a steel chair! The exclusive last gen mode Who Got NXT, works the exact same way as showcase. A series of matches with objectives involving current and former NXT stars including Adrian Neville, Bo Dallas, Corey Graves, Rusev and Sami Zayn. Who Got NXT, is such a disappointment for a last gen exclusive mode. 2K and Yuke’s should have offered something more than a series of matches but the bright spot is getting to use the NXT stars.

I’m going be brutally honest, WWE 2K15 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is a major disappointment. Save your money and pick up WWE 2K15 when the price drops or just keep WWE 2K14. Clearly 2K and Yuke’s decided to put its time and effort into the current gen versions of WWE 2K15. It’s more than disappointing that 2K and Yuke’s would leave last gen owners with such a gimped version of WWE 2K15.
