Good news for those who are waiting for the software update of Google because the web browser has officially released Chrome 38 to Stable channel available for Mac, Windows and Linux. This newest software update which is 38.0.2125.101 offers a number of improvements and fixes which include new applications and extension APIs plus loads of under the hood changes aiming for better performance and stability.

As already mentioned, the  new software would make a number of fixes for the browser with the update containing 159 security fixes and 113 minor changes with the use of the Memory Sanitizer feature. Some of them are very significant that they were promoted on the Google web page and given monetary amount from the Bug Rewards Program of the browser.

New Java Script Features

  • Two highly-requested data structures, maps and sets that allow simpler and more rational storing and interacting with data.
  • Easy and extensible way of reiterating over sequenced types of data like strings, arrays, maps and sets using Iterators.
  • Symbols are added too, helping avoid object properties from interfering with each other unintentionally.
  • Match functions like Math.log10 and Math.sign help developers prevent the possibility of implementing the functions and offers an increase in the performance of built-in functions.

Other Updates to Watch Out For

The Chrome 38 version have a lot of updates that goes with it like the Network Information API which is enabled to give access to web application to the current network type on a device that runs on Chrome, iOS, or Android operating system. There’s the Screen Orientation API that is added too which allows developers to lock the screen orientation while its user is within the app instead of just detecting whether a device is in a landscape or portrait mode. Lastly, SVG files are not supported by the update anymore except on Windows systems that are older than Windows 7.
