Fresh from the line via a press release, the release date for Destiny’s first expansion, “The Dark Below“, has finally been given a release date. You’ll be able to download the continuation of the game’s story and more on Tuesday, December 9th, as announced by both Activision and Bungie (Destiny’s publisher and developer respectively).

The Dark Below marks the first of two expansions planned for the sci-fi shooter pseudo-MMO, the second one being “House of Wolves“. Destiny’s upcoming first expansion will deal with one of the game’s enemies, the Hive, whilst the second expansion will deal with the Fallen.

The Dark Below is touted to introduce all-new weapons and gear to earn throughout a new story, as well as new co-operative and multiplayer activities.

“Destiny was created as a living universe, which has allowed us to improve the experience post launch in real-time,” Bungie’s president, Harold Ryan, stated in the press release. “It also gives us insight into the things players are looking for in new content. We’ve seen from feedback that people want new activities, gear and weapons and of course the immensely popular Raid. The community helps shape our development decisions and that’s really important to us.

An entire rundown of what The Dark Below will offer you has been detailed below, which includes increasing the game’s level cap to 32, adding five additional Bounty slots, three new multiplayer maps, a new raid, and a timed PlayStation-exclusive Strike mission.

The Dark Below will set you back £19.99 (or your regional equivalent) as an individual purchase. Alternatively, purchasing the Destiny Expansion Pass will secure you both The Dark Below and House of Wolves (when it releases) for £34.99. Both expansions will be available for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3. We’ll bring you more on Destiny should further information reach our ears.
