The Evil Within gets rid of 30FPS and cinematic mode on PC

by GH Staff

Before, we get started, let’s remember that the title has been already customizable to a certain extent on it’s PC release thanks to the debug console and a savant use of its many mysteries (see an unofficial FOV fix guide provided by one of our authors here for example). Thanks to Bethesda and Tango Gameworks, some of these tricks and the graphics instability they imply are not necessary anymore.

You can now enjoy your blood bathes in 60FPS

Released on the 14th Ocotber on both current and former gen consoles as well as on PC, The Evil Within was promised to be a bit of a disappointment (see Gamer Healines review here). But it was without even considering the PC version and the various polemics surrounding the 30FPS lock and the disturbing use of its ‘cinematic’ mode (black bands located at the top and bottom of the screen mimicking a movie aspect ratio).
Since yesterday, these two major issues raised by the PC community are no more as a result of the patch issued by the development studio of The Evil Within. The game now fully supports 60FPS and you can choose to get rid of the black bands that made your experience miserable (or not). This looks like a good step towards the PC players that felt aggrieved by a ‘downgraded’ PC version according to the players statements (understand ‘not customizable enough’).

It’s interesting to remember the first polemic brought by the suprisingly high minimal requirements to play the game on PC. And with each problem that arise, Bethesda as made a exceptionally good job of complying with the PC community requests. For the better or the worst, that remains to be seen.
