Just recently, particularly in August, A&E announced that the hit drama Longmire was officially cancelled. The network said that because of the older age of the majority of viewers of the said show, it became too hard for the A&E to sell to advertisers. Many viewers were surprised on that decision, especially because the show had a good rating at the time. Unfortunately for the fans, the finale of the third season of Longmire had no particular ending in sight.
As with the decision of A&E to cancel Longmire instead of filming its fourth season, money seems to be a major factor involved in coming up with the said decision. According to the network, the “old age” of the viewers of the show gave them a hard time to get advertisers and bring money in to A&E. The show featured an older viewership, but the advertisers wanted a younger audience to see their advertisements, as reported by Celebrity Dirty Laundry.
It has been common for many television series to be cancelled, but with Longmire, millions of viewers worldwide of the said popular show seem to be a big problem for its cancellation. These viewers are upset at A&E, and they are currently campaigning for the return of the hit drama. Furthermore, they are threatening to boycott the whole network if they do not change their decision to stop doing another season.
Also, there has been a campaign for a new network to save the show, as per the October 20th edition of GLOBE Magazine. Some popular networks, such as Netflix or USA Network, are being asked by the loyal viewers of the show to pick it up and continue the finale of the third season. The situation is getting really serious as this campaign is being fronted by letters and internet posts asking the cable companies to remove A&E from their packages.
The group of supporters of the show, known as “The Longmire Posse”, has approximately 30,000 people as of this time. This group is doing petitions every day for a network to save Longmire. This shows how much many viewers want this drama to continue.
There are many major media outlets and producers who are working to save Longmire from its cancellation. The rights to continue the show The Killing, which was cancelled by AMC, were recently purchased by the popular network Netflix. There is a possibility for them to do the same thing for Longmire, too.
