HTC One E8 vs HTC One M8 Compared

by GH Staff

Looking for where the two HTC phones differ since HTC announced their HTC One M8 and its successor HTC One E8?

Taking just a glance, there is not much to differentiate between the two. They both operate and look similar. The notion around the new smartphone seems to be the development of the top of the specifications quality, at a much lower price tag.

So let’s take a deeper look:

Layout

The most obvious first difference is the design of the HTC One M8 and the design of the HTC One E8.

The M8 has a similar design, but with cover that is single brushed aluminum, but has a subtle touch of plastic. It fits comfortably in user’s hands, and has measurements of 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm and is 160 grams in weight.

While the E8 has a less than premium look with a polycarbonate cover. Weighing only 145 grams, it measures 146.42 x 70.67 x 9.85 mm, making it lighter.

They both have speakers that are of good quality, from the top to the bottom of the display, and have similar fronts.

Camera

Looking at the design, there are other differences that stick out between the two devices. This is mainly seen from the cameras. The successor has a UltraPixel sensor, and a built-in secondary sensor for dual shot, which allows for depth measurement, and help to correct blurred backgrounds.

On the other hand, the E8, has 13MP camera that is powerful. Tricky to determine if that is bad or good, due to the divisive camera, although it has the capabilities of taking pictures with much greater detail. It doesn’t have a Duo Camera comprising of all the great features, however has front-facing camera with 5MP resolution, like its predecessor. You are able to short 1080p videos on both phones.

Display

Both of the displays are Super LCD 3 Screen 5 inch displays, with the resolution of 1080 x 1920 and pixel density of 441ppi.

Performance

They both don’t outshine the other when it comes to performance. Each device is powered by the Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor that clocks in at 2.3GHz and has RAM capacity of 2GB. Therefore, it is best to think that the E8 will provide a performance that is impressive.

OS

Neither of them again is better than the other, because the both operate on the KitKat Android 4.4v, and use the UI from Sense 6.

Connectivity

Both HTC model support 4G, Bluetooth, and NFC. They each offer the standard connectivity from smartphones such as Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS. They differentiate when it comes to the IR blaster, which is not available in the predecessor.

Verdict

Without looking at the price tag, the HTC M8 is the best option. It provides a much better build, although they don’t differ in camera features, which doesn’t really help in swaying the user. However, the HTC M8 comes out on top.
