Star Wars - 3 PS2 games rated for PS3, suggests re-release

3 Star Wars games that were previously released on PlayStation 2 have recently received new PlayStation 3 ratings by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), suggesting that the 3 titles in question may be getting re-released for the PS3 sometime in the near future.

Read more details on what Star Wars games may re-released for the PlayStation 3 after the break.

3 PS2-era Star Wars Games May Be Re-released on PS3

Star Wars games PS3 re-rerelease

The ESRB has given brand new ratings to 3 fairly popular PlayStation 2-era Star Wars video games, including Star Wars Racer Revenge , Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, and Star Wars Starfighter.

Unfortunately for nostalgic gamers excited about the prospect of an HD remake of any of the aforementioned games, it is unlikely that the PS2 Star Wars games will be remastered in any form or fashion. It is much more probable that the games will be released as “PS2 Classics” on the PlayStation Store.

It is unlikely these PS3 releases will be remastered in any way. Instead, they are likely to be new PS2 Classics released via PlayStation Store.

In related news, last week, it was reported that the popular digital distribution service, GOG.com, was planning to reveal a new publisher (and their associated video games) to their catalog once a countdown banner on the site’s front page ran out.

Various team members on the GOG.com hinted that the newly signed major publisher is LucasArts, and that their signing would bring in a veritable bevy of classic Star Wars video games to the service. Furthermore, a tech-savvy GOG user did a bit of poking around the website, and found a number of images that lent credence to rumors that LucasArts is indeed the publisher to be revealed at the end of the countdown.

Those rumors were confirmed to be true (ahead of the countdown’s termination, no less) by a number of  posts on GOG.com’s forums – LucasArts is indeed GOG.com’s newly added publisher.

The following are the Star Wars games that are available on GOG.com:

  • Knights of the Old Republic
  • TIE Fighter Special Edition
  • X-Wing Special Edition

What are your thoughts on the possibility of some PS2-era Star Wars games being re-released for the PlayStation 3? Would you pick one, some, or all of them up? If so, which one(s)?
