Hanniball, the word is inspired from the word cannibal which means human eaters. This word got so popular in 2001 as a movie got released with the same title. The name itself grabbed the attention of audience and it got heavy openings. From that day onwards this word remained as a synonym for physiological thrillers. When Bryan Fuller decided to come up with a new psychological thriller for NBC TV, he thought this would be the perfect name for the serial and his expectations became true as the premier of the program got tremendous response and from that day onwards it increased its audience base rapidly.
The 18-49 demographic, which constitute the highest number of audience in USA, are known for their liking towards the crime thrillers and like other crime thrillers from NBC, this show also got huge success. The season 1 of this program ended on a high note on 20th June 2013 and makers wanted to come up with a new season to cash the popularity of Hanniball. The second season also got positive reviews from audience which ended on 28th February 2014. Pressure from audience is so much that the makers also released the DVD’s of these two seasons and they also became a revenue source for producers.
Critics criticize the serial for predictive screenplay and routine story and this didn’t have any impact on the audience version of Hanniball. From the audience point of view, Metacritic gave a rating of 6.9 out of 10 for season 1 whereas the season 2 got positive reviews from all over the world. The second season got 8.8 points from Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes acclaimed it as fresh and unique and it showed a rating of 9.2 based on 23 ratings from audience.
High quality production values and the creative directional skills are the main reasons for the success of this series. Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen who are known for their good acting skills are casted for this serial and they received positive acclamation from critics for their acting skills. Other important characters are played by well-known artists like Laurence Fish burne, Scott Thompson, Gillan Anderson etc. For those who don’t know how the naming of characters was done, the names of the characters are actually picked up from the Red Dragon novel which was written by Thomas Harris.
This serial is famous in several other English speaking countries other than USA. In Canada, City TV got the broadcasting rights of this series and it became a huge success there also. Seven Network grabbed the rights to telecast this series in Australia and New Zealand and the series is presently being telecasted on TV3. In the Latin American Countries, this show is telecasted by AXN network in their own channel.
Audience have very high hopes on the upcoming season and hope that it will also get success like the previous two seasons. The new season will also consist of 13 episodes and it may start from the January of next year (2015).
