We definitely got treated to a lot of information regarding Bungie’s Destiny this week. First, we’ve gotten news that Destiny’s beta stage will be coming sometime during the summer, and guaranteed access will be given to those that pre-order the game. Opposed to Respawn’s Titanfall, Destiny developer Bungie seems to be clear about its schedule for the release date and the beta testing stage. While the exact date for the beginning of beta testing hasn’t been announced, the launch date of the game has, and it’s coming on the 9th of September, 2014:

Activision Publishing and Activision Blizzard CEOs Eric Hirshberg and Bobby Kotick have also made some bold claims, further emphasizing the confidence of the team behind Destiny. According to the two, Destiny will become theĀ “best-selling new video game IP in history”. The success of Destiny is pretty certain at this point, but considering that it’s going up against major titles like The Division or Titanfall, the claim maybe a little bit overly ambitious.
And, the term “IP” refers to a franchise, in which case, it won’t be easy for Destiny to defeat other massive IP’s, such as GTA or Super Maro (heck, even overtaking Halo or Call of Duty is quite the challenge). Bungie’s Destiny is a long-term investment though, that’s for sure, and Activision has made a 10-year investment in the new franchise, possibly hoping to generate revenues on-par with Call of Duty. This prediction would also suggest that Destiny is just the first of a newly born franchise, and we can expect Destiny 2 and Destiny 3 in the upcoming years.
