There are hundreds of thousands of users of the different social media application in the world. These social media applications include the most popular Twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook application. Thousands of people use these advanced social media applications daily for a number of purposes. These applications are mainly used for sharing the images, for chatting with your friends, for remaining connected to your friends, for having entertainment, and for the purpose of talking about what is going on in your mind right now also.
The new director of the government Communications Headquarters is of the view that all of these social media applications are quite beneficial, but these are also supporting the terrorism in all over the world in different ways.
For the Financial Times, in a view piece, it was written by the Robert Hannigan that it is the web that is supporting the ISIS in promoting their Jihad practices in all over the world. He also said the internet has being used by the different agencies that are spreading the terrorism around the globe for years.
While comparing the web-based terrorism activities of the ISIS and al-Qaeda he also added:
Al-Qaeda is using the internet as a good source for the spread of their materials or to decide about the places for their dark meetings. On the other hand, ISIS is using the internet as an active channel for its spread worldwide. Through it, it is also making the people fearful.
The three social media services that were pointed by the Hannigan being used by al-Aqeda and ISIS in its spread include WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter. Al-Qaeda and the ISIS are using these advanced services to meet with their partners and to spread the terrorism also. The answer to this terrifying problem is really quite simple. To solve this dangerous problem, the technology based companies should work in collaboration with the spy agencies. In this way, the spy agencies will be able to fight against the terrorism that is spreading over the web by the terrorists.
With the introduction of improved security services in the smart phones, it has become too hard to find the communications that take place between the terrorist parties over the web. All the messages are now sent after passing through the process of encryption. To ensure even more and advanced protection, Snowden approved programs are available there. With these Snowden approved programs, the users can get improved security for their sent messages. Thus, Snowden approved programs upgrade the level of security. With the release of a new version iOS 8, Apple’s phone operating system, a large boost has been brought in the mobile encryption. This new upgraded system is not crackable also. According to Hannigan, a lawful authority should be given to the companies for unlocking the device in certain cases.
In response to this opinion, Twitter has declined to give any kind of feedback. Also, Facebook has also not given any positive response in this matter.
