A big reveal to come out of this week, aside form the release of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, is Avalanche Studios’ Just Cause 3, the third sequel to the Just Cause series. Rumors of the game started circulating earlier on this month, when leaked screenshots indicated that the new addition to the series might include micro-transactions.
Whilst it was claimed by an unnamed source that there was originally intended to be two editions of the game, a free-to-play version on PC and a paid-for console version with optional micro-transactions, it wasn’t flat out confirmed whether or not Just Cause 3 would or not be a free-to-play game.
With the game’s announcement now out in the open, an with in-depth information anticipated in the December issue of Game Informer, Avalanche Studios has come out to publicly put worries to rest, declaring that Just Cause 3 will, in fact, not be free-to-play and will not feature in-game micro-transactions. The developer even addressed the leaked screenshots, saying that they were from a much older version of the game.
“Following last week’s rumours and speculation, we also wanted to take the opportunity to address a few misconceptions. Those leaked screenshots were taken from an ancient version of Just Cause 3,” Avalanche’s co-founder and chief creative officer, Christofer Sundberg, explained on the developer’s official website.
“Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models. Those leaked screenshots show aspects of that process, and in no way reflect the game we are making today.
To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC,” Sundberg continued. “It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.“
Sundberg went on to say that Avalanche Studios will still continue to support the game after it launches for many years to come, like through DLC and additional items for players to have fun with. Until then, the developer is committed to making Just Cause 3 the best game it possibly can be: “Rest assured it will be a huge, fully packed and extremely rewarding experience right out of the gate,” Sundberg added.
