Telegram and WhatsApp are some the leading messaging apps on the market. The most recent entrant, Telegram is not as popular but has provided little competition to the 450 million user base of WhatsApp.
Facebook owned WhatsApp has given a little leverage to the newcomer, Telegram. However how do they really stack up?
Similarities:
1. Each app provides the same formula for identification, which includes using a mobile number. They have similar conversation views and user interfaces.
2. You send videos and pictures, and do group chats on both apps.
Differences
1. Compared to WhatsApp, Telegram is faster. Telegram is lighter on the RAM, and less of hanging.
2. Telegram is able to be used on multiple devices concurrently using one number. WhatsApp can only be used on one.
3. Telegram can also be used on your computer. While WhatsApp requires an Android emulator.
4. Only one devices is able to use messaging with WhatsApp. While Telegram allows for multiple accesses to messaging from the computer to your mobile phone.
5. Security is an aspect that is lacking on Telegram. However, a $200,000 bounty has been made to anyone that can hack into the app. Security on WhatsApp has been tested to be somewhat secure.
6. After a year of service, you have to buy WhatsApp, which they remind you. Yet since Telegram is an open source application, you won’t be charged ever!
7. Very few people are using Telegram compared to the millions that use WhatsApp.
8. You can have up to 200 members in your group chat on Telegram. That is compared to the 20 to 30 members allowed on WhatsApp.
9. You have up to 1GB of data transfers between users that is uninterrupted on Telegram.
10. On Telegram there is an option for secret chatting, where messages can be deleted based on a timer.
11. You are able to attach any file from your SD card on Telegram, unlike the limitations placed by WhatsApp.
12. You will get 2 tics on Telegram alerting you that the message was read.
13. You will know who is online and who is off when you are doing group chat in Telegram.
