Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

With the announcement made yesterday that Metal Gear Online, a multiplayer component included in past Metal Gear Solid installments, will be showcased during The Game Awards 2014 on December 5th, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has revealed some new details regarding the upcoming feature.

Kojima has stated that the ability to infiltrate other people’s Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain — an aspect of the title shown at Gamescom earlier this year — is not part of the Metal Gear Online experience.

“Battle in [Mother Base] revealed in [Gamescom] is NOT what MGO will be. That was one of the online elements in MAIN STORY that players can sneak in MB together,” Kojima tweeted.

From examining the tweet above, Kojima has confirmed that there is a co-op mechanic allowing players to invade someone’s Mother Base with the help of a friend.

The Phantom Pain’s development is continuing to be pushed forward by Kojima this week, as the developer tweeted an image of himself and Japanese actor Banjō Ginga (Liquid Snake and Major Zero) during a recording session for the title.

A significant amount of information regarding The Phantom Pain’s new features have also been revealed by Kojima over the past few months, including the restrictions placed on free roaming when a main mission begins, the importance of recruiting multilingual soldiers into Mother Base and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes’ setting of Camp Omega being a location that players will be able to return to.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will launch in 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
