Nintendo of Japan Discontinuing 3DS XL

by GH Staff

Nintendo of Japan recently announced that they will beĀ discontinuing the 3DS XL in Japan (or the “LL” as it’s known here). No specific date has been given as of this writing. While the 2DS and original 3DS are still in production with no announcements of discontinuing those products, Japanese gamers will need to buy the New 3DS LL if they want a larger screen.

While this may not immediately affect European or North American gamers, as neither region has yet to receive the new models, GamerHeadlines has reached out to Nintendo of America for a possible statement. Last we heard, these regions weren’t receiving the new models because the current system hasn’t “peaked,” so it’s less of a question about producing the new model than it is being able to sell it at the right time. However, those who wish to purchase a Japanese 3DS LL may want to import one sooner rather than later in light of the information currently available.

Update: Nintendo has said they currently have no new updates despite the Japanese announcement.
