As sad as it may seem, it’s unfortunately true: two iterations of the iconic Tetris game will be removed from Nintendo’s European 3DS eShop by the end of December.
Word of this came around when a Twitter user posted up an image (seen abpove) depicting a news notification, saying that two Tetris games “will no longer be available for purchase after 31/12/2014.” The announcement itself was posted up last week, and it can be found in the News section of the 3DS’ eShop. The two games that’ll be removed are the following:
- Tetris (Card / Download )
- Tetris (Virtual Console)

The good news is that if you have already purchased either of the two Tetris games from the eShop it’ll still remain yours; you’ll still be able to re-download it whenever you like – it just won’t be available to buy anymore after it has been removed.
This means that if you buy the soon-to-be-removed Tetris games now, and uninstall them from your 3DS, you’ll still be able to re-download them even after they’re removed form the eShop’s line-up.
So far, it seems to be only European users who will be affected by this, as nothing similar has been discovered for North American users as of yet. It’s also been speculated this removal could be related to the recently released Tetris Ultimate from Ubisoft.
We’ll bring you more news on this should further information reach our ears.
