Started since 2012, HeyKiddoGames has been developing an indie project called INGONGA; this first-person, survival horror game takes place on an isolated island in the bayous east of New Orleans. On this remote land, an old and reclusive family has built a mansion and a small village that are tucked away from civilization. Uninvited, a young woman named Luna has traveled to this mysterious island in hopes of finding her missing mother who was investigating strange, horrific events that occurred 20 years ago. Unfortunately, Luna later learns that terrifying creatures roam in this haunted place. Here’s a trailer:
Although this video game focuses on the mysterious iron cauldrons found in Caribbean Vodou culture, they also use creatures and stories from other cultures as well. From the Vodoun and Yoruba culture from West Africa, folks will see a digital imitation of the Asasabonsam; this being is a vampire with sickle-like feet that hangs from trees and grabs its victim to gnaw on them with iron teeth. The Boo Hag, a mythical creature from Gullah folklore, steals the skin from children to wear in the night. Additionally, the spirits of Haitian Vodou called the Loa intermediaries between Bondye – the Creator – and humanity. Besides these mythical monsters, the developer has others that are not mentioned as well.
To hide or run away from these creatures and spirits, interested players will need to wait until January for the developer to release an English demo for the PC. As a quick reminder, HeyKiddoGames will launch another KickStarter campaign for INGONGA in March! For another fun fact, Rhett Chassereau who had spent eight years at Activision on the Call of Duty series has founded HeyKiddoGames with his family and friends. The game is being developed by Rhett in the Unity engine with art and modeling done by Catherine Edwards.
