The recently revealed Metal Gear Online will be included with Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, publisher Konami has announced.

Metal Gear Online, which had its world premiere showcased by Hideo Kojima during the inaugural Game Awards last week, has featured in past Metal Gear Solid titles as the multiplayer component.

Kojima’s highly regarded Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was the last major installment to feature MGO — also sold as a standalone add-on in Japan — with the servers for the multiplayer running from 2008 to 2012 in North America.

During The Game Awards, Kojima confirmed that Kojima Productions’ LA-based studio will be working on MGO for The Phantom Pain, while the Japanese developer is overseeing development on the online experience as an executive producer.

The 16-player multiplayer experience returns in MGO and a number of new features were revealed during the footage at The Game Awards, including the ability to use the Fulton system, controllable bipedal weapons available on the map and stealth camouflage.

Kojima, who received the very first Cinematography in Videogames award during Bradford Animation Festival in November, also teased the possibility of a release date for his eagerly awaited open-world stealth title, as many believe the T-shirt he was wearing during The Game Awards hinted at the launch date for The Phantom Pain.

Running on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is rumoured to launch in Q2 of 2015 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
