AVG Free Antivirus vs. Bitedefender Free Antivirus- Both Have Good Points, Few Negatives

AVG Free Antivirus

There are many good anti-virus programs on the market, with some being better than others. When you get into the free category, you have to be careful because sometimes you get what you paid for, which is nothing.Fortunately, that is not the case with either AG Free Antivirus or Bitdefender AntiVirus.AVG began as a free product that allowed consumers to see what it could do. It turned out to be a good marketing strategy. The free product is still available and does a commendable job. However, the free software has to be looked upon as a teaser to attract people to the paid version of AVG, which does offer more protection. BitDefender is one of those programs that you forget are already be installed on your computer because it works so well in the background. However, it has two major flaws. If a computer is already infested with any type of malware, then the installation of BitDefender becomes more difficult. Secondly, tech support is only available via email, meaning you cannot talk to a tech support person, and he cannot fix your machine remotely. Paid versions of Bitedefender do offer tech support. Granted, many consumers do not want anyone working on their machines remotely, but sometimes that can be the best approach. AVG Free Antivirus Software suffers from two of the similar flaws. It is difficult to install on a malware-infested machine. However, this appears to be a problem for many machines, indicating that the installation of anti-virus software should be the first task on any new machine.

AVG began as a free product and now has a paid version, and other related programs. Some find it annoying that AVG attempts to introduce numerous upgrade offers while running a scan or some other task. The free version is still available.Based on various reviews, Bitedefender and AVG rate almost equal. There are pros and cons for both. Neither does well on a malware infested machine. AVG will be trying to see other products when it gets the change but Bitedefender only offers e-mail support, which can be a problem when your computer crashes in the middle of the night. Also, if the computer crashes, how do you send the e-mail request? Thus, since both programs are free, it would appear the AVG has the upper hand. Granted, AVG may try to sell you other products, but the other products do have more features and thus offer a greater level of protection. If you have time, and your machine is in good shape. You may want to try both, but not at the same time. If looking for something that appears to have the ability to adapt to the growing demands being placed on anti-virus software, AVG Free would be the recommended starting point.AVG gets an Editor’s Choice award from PC (PCMAG.Com), but AVG and Bitedefender both get the same score from the magazine, as do many other free software products. Both programs, along with many other programs seem to have good qualities and some minor quirks that may be unique to particular machines, certain software products installed on the machine or other conditions.
Both Bitedender and AVG Antivirus Free rank well, with AVG having a slight edge because while annoying to some, the company does make you aware of other products, its offers that might have prevented your current problem in the first place. Yes, it is advertising, but it is informative advertising, which can be useful.
