Assassin’s Creed game set in Asia not out of the question, Ubisoft says

With the recent announcement of Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed game disclosing its Victorian London setting, it feels extremely premature to mention potential environments for future Assassin’s Creed games.

Yet, upon the reveal of the company’s upcoming 2.5D spin-off game, Assassins Creed Chronicles: China, many gamers were hoping for a full-fledged AC game set in an Asian country. While that has not happened at this time – according to Ubisoft’s worldwide Uplay director, Stephanie Perotti, it may happen sometime in the future.

Read more details after the break.

Full Assassin’s Creed Game Set in Asia Not Unthinkable

During last week’s PlayStation 4 China announcement, Perotti brought to light some rather interesting details regarding the importation of Ubisoft’s popular franchises to the country.

When asked about the possibility of an Assassin’s Creed game set in China, the Uplay director stated the following – revealing an interest, however slight, in an Asian Assassin’s Creed title:

“I don’t think that we said we weren’t interested in Chinese history. I think that we notice a lot of stories—we want to have creativity to create the right story (within the right context). If we have Assassin’s Creed creators that want to spend time (understanding the history of the setting), we can understand Chinese history or Japanese history and make these games about history.”

Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed III director Alex Hutchinson previously dismissed the idea of an Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan, stating that it would be too familiar a setting for the franchise:

“Feudal Japan would work as an Assassin’s game, for sure, but I feel like it would start to look like, ‘Oh, have I played this?’ You know what I mean – ‘Oh, I’ve been a ninja before, I’ve been a samurai before.'”

Ubisoft certainly has an interest in bringing Assassin’s Creed to Asia, with the aforementioned spin-off Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China. However, judging my Mrs. Perotti’s words, it seems that a full AC adventure set somewhere in Asia is not entirely out of the question.

What are your thoughts on Mrs. Perotti’s statements regarding a full AC game set in Asia? Would you enjoy a game such as that or would you rather Ubisoft revamp the series’ mechanics instead? Why or why not?
