Sniper Elite 3’s new trailer shows painful ways to die

by GH Staff

Sniper Elite 3 is coming out this year, and besides new missions and a new setting (Africa), the 3rd installment in the series will bring an improved kill-cam. If you hated the kill-cam of Sniper Elite V2, you’re probably not going to be thrilled to know that it’s coming back in full strength, and judging by how much of an emphasis developer Rebellion is putting on it, it’s not likely to be any less frequent. Ok, but how did it improve?

Well, for starters, bones will be shattering more accurately. More layers to the human body have been added in Sniper Elite 3, with a goal of making shots and the damage done seem more realistic. Based on what’s shown in the trailer though, that’s not exactly the feeling we have been getting. Sure, if you’re into Mortal Kombat styled executions and gore, you’ll be pleased. But if you find the repetitive kill-cam to be a nuisance, it’s not likely this new improved version will hit the mark for you. The good thing seems to be that Sniper Elite 3’s kill-cam will trigger only on amazing shots, and will be influenced by range, trajectory, the place of bullet impact and whether or not the target is moving. If Rebellion adds an option to set how frequently it pops up, it might not be a bad feature.

The team at Rebellion used a bunch of fruits and vegetables to create sound effects for splattering skulls and torn intestines. Whether or not that’s realistic is questionable. But, if you want to see and hear people’s heads go splat like a pumpkin, you’ll certainly be pleased. Thankfully, there were no .50 cal snipers in World War 2, so Rebellion can’t start working on a kill-cam that shows limbs blown off…at least not yet. On the good side of things (again, if you actually like the kill-cam), the system is extended for vehicles as well, so shooting the engine of a moving truck will show a detailed damage mechanic. So, here’s the new trailer for Sniper Elite 3, focusing on kill-cams. What’s your take? Yay or nay?
