Slim chances of Fallout 4 coming out this year

by GH Staff

We’ve been covering a lot about Mass Effect 4 lately, as Bioware has announced that it is indeed working on a sequel to the Mass Effect trilogy and the game is advancing nicely in terms of development. But what about Fallout 4? Rumors and hoaxes have been running amok, yet Bethesda is as silent as ever when it comes to the Fallout franchise. With the developer focusing on the launch of Elder Scrolls Online on the 4th of April and publishing The Evil Within on the 26th of August, their plate seems rather full. Additionally, they have Wolfenstein: The New Order on the table as well, so it’s definitely going to be a full year for Bethesda.

Does that mean that there is no hope for Fallout 4? It would be silly to assume that Bethesda would ignore the huge fan-base and not consider making profits. Then again, we’re starting to wonder if we’re seeing the Valve/Half-Life 3 pattern all over again. Rumors had it that Bethesda would announce Fallout 4 at this year’s QuakeCon or E3, but those were more likely remnants of wishful thinking rather than serious sources. In fact, Bethesda VP Pete Hines has recently stated that there are no plans of any announcements about what the company is working on. Referring to the developing teams, he stated that “We are not talking about what they are working on and will not be for quite a long time”. His recent twitter activity seems to confirm this approach from Bethesda, as far as Fallout 4 is concerned.

Does this mean that Fallout 4 is nothing but a dream? Probably not, it will most likely become a reality. But it’s safe to assume that there’s no Fallout 4 coming out this year, or the next. In fact, considering this attitude from Bethesda, there most likely be no Fallout 4 related announcements at all this year. Disappointing as this might be, Fallout 3 is a hard game to match or top, so if there ever will be a Fallout 4, we want it to be absolutely fantastic. The wait might be a killer, but at least we know that Bethesda isn’t going for an easy cash-grab with this one (yes Call of Duty, we’re looking at you!).
