Racing game DiRT 3 will finally be removing its Games For Windows Live (GFWL) DRM very soon. The news was originally announced way back in January 2014 but much to the frustration of fans, it didn’t end up happening. Codemaster’s community manager Lee Williams posted an update recently stating that the GFWL DRM will be removed very soon, with the Steamworks system taking its place.
It was also announced that every single owner of DiRT 3 will automatically be upgraded to the Complete Edition for free, for those that don’t know, the complete edition includes the base game and all of the DLC. If you don’t own the game on Steam, you will need your DiRT 3 CD key, which you can then input into Steam once the GFWL DRM is removed. It’s also worth noting that if you own the Mac version of DiRT 3, you will receive a Mac version of the game. Steam Trading Cards will also be available once the update goes through.
No specific date was given for the update. However, it was stated that we can expect the removal to happen ‘very soon’. After the year long wait DiRT 3 fans have already had to wait, the update can’t come soon enough.
