Man arrested on account of DDOS-attacks

An eighteen year old British man was arrested as he is suspected of being involved in the DDOS-attacks on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live that took place around the Christmas period, which left quite some gamers unable to properly access online services.

The man is accused of unauthorized access to material on computers after the DDOS-attacks pretty much paralyzed the online services from Microsoft and Sony. He’s also being accused of supplying false information to the authorities of the United States.

The arrest was part of a shared operation between the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (Serocu), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the North West Regional Crime Unit (Rocu) and the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU).

“We are still in the early phase of the investigation, with a lot of work yet to come,” stated Craig Jones, head of the Serocu’s Cyber Crime Unit in an interview with BBC. “We’ll continue to work with the FBI to identify the offenders and to make sure they are held responsible for their deeds.”

Some people are currently experiencing issues on Xbox Live, especially on the Xbox 360, where they are having trouble with online payments, app functionality and access to the cloud storage. This appears to be unrelated to the infamous DDOS-attack, however.
