Yotaphone 2: An Android Smartphone with 2 Displays

by GH Staff

At the Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest mobile tech show, smartphone company Yota Devices revealed the Yotaphone 2, an Android smartphone that has not one, but two full size displays. That’s right, two. The main face of the device is a standard smartphone screen, but the backside offers up an “always on” e-ink display. This display can interact with calls, emails, texts, social media and certain other Android applications.

So why the need for a second screen? The Yotaphone 2’s minimalistic e-ink display helps to conserve the phone’s battery life. According to the company, the battery life can last up to 50 hours when only using that e-ink display. So, if you need an all-day, all-night device, Yota Devices has the answer.

As far as the specs go, the Yotaphone 2 has a lot to offer when competing against the other high-end Android smartphones. Under the hood, it sports a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2 GB of RAM, while also offering an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. While the rear e-ink display is great, the front screen is no slouch either, as it’s a 5-inch AMOLED display. Details on price, carrier, and release date have not been offered. However, it looks as though the Yotaphone 2 will be available in Russia and Europe initially, while China and the United States will get the unique smartphone by the end of the year.
