Fable 3 Was A “Trainwreck”, Says Peter Molyneux

by GH Staff

In a recent interview with Develop, seasoned games designer Peter Molyneux has admitted that his own Fable 3 was a bit of a “trainwreck”, stating that his vision of a perfect game may never come to fruition. The former Lionhead Studios CEO believes the third installment in the popular Fable series was “built to be much bigger than it was.”. He went on to say that although all three titles are, “beautiful, incredible, amusing, funny, artistic,” and “wonderful,” he expressed personal concern that Fable 3 wasn’t the gem he had envisioned. Molyneux departed from Lionhead in 2012 to form his new company, 22 Cans and is currently obtaining funding for his latest project, Godus.

Fable 3 was originally released on the Xbox 360 at the end of October 2010 and on the PC the following May. It received positive praise, with GameSpot calling it a “beautiful world…brimming with humor and personality,” and Official Xbox Magazine applauding its memorable roleplay elements. Molyneux recalled memories of the previous Fable titles: “I thought Fable I – when you consider that it was the first game I ever did of that type – wasn’t bad.” He said. He then went on to refer to Fable 2 as “a step in the right direction.”

Fable 3 has recently been released on Xbox 360 alongside the first two games in a special anniversary pack. The first in the series has also been remastered and shipped with the original game’s Lost Chapters DLC. Lionhead Studios are also working on Fable Legends, a multiplayer title for the Xbox One. Despite how he feels about the “flawed” Fable 3, Molyneux has expressed enthusiasm for how the British game development team will continue the popular RPG series. Alongside this, the studio is also rumored to be working on new plans for up-and-coming projects that don’t relate to the Fable games. Gamer Headlines will be keeping an eye on this development and will bring you news as and when it’s revealed.
