Advanced Warfare Will Be Like A New IP, Sledgehammer Says

by GH Staff

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is in development by Sledgehammer Games, the studio that co-developed 2011’s Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward. Advanced Warfare is the first game to be developed on a 3 year development cycle and Sledgehammer Games is promising big things for their first solo title, calling it “ambitious” and “creative”. Speaking to Gameinformer, Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield talks about how this title will be like a whole new IP for the COD series:

We approached this like we would any new IP. I mean, this has been one heck of a creative challenge. I mean, everything is brand new in the game.

His statement was supported by senior development director  Aaron Halon, who confirmed that the game will retain its signature 60fps gameplay, however things like pacing will receive a change:

We really looked closely at a lot of the things – the pacing is different. There’s very core things of Call of Duty that won’t change, 60 FPS, the moments and things that are very memorable in the game, but our take on it, our spin on it is different.

Sledgehammer’s other co-founder, Michael Condrey, shared his view on how this game could be a uniquely ‘Sledgehammer’ experience.

Yeah, we’re really looking forward to sharing more because we think we have some meaningful way to make this franchise feel like it’s got its Sledgehammer mark on it.

It will be very interesting to see how Sledgehammer makes this next COD game their own and presents us with an experience very unique to the series. Already we’ve seen the futuristic technology in the reveal trailer and how it will likely change how we play COD. Kevin Spacey is also sure to deliver a stellar performance as one of the game’s main characters. COD: Advanced Warfare launches on November 4 2014 for Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
