The acclaimed MMO Guild Wars 2 is going cosmetic with the addition of the Wardrobe System, which will be included in the April 15th Feature Pack (monthly updates that also include balance changes).
Guild Wars 2 prides itself on customization options and a wide variety of equipment, weapons and cosmetic skins. However, all of these options can be a little overwhelming, especially for a new player.
Developer ArenaNet’s answer to this will be the Wardrobe System, which will collect the purely cosmetic look of every piece of armor, weapon and skin you find on your account. Players will be able to preview their new threads in the section before actually hitting apply.
Here is a video outlining the basics:
User Interface designer Kate Welch explained that these simple changes took months to prepare. “The Wardrobe has been a long project in the making,” Welch said. “I’ve personally been working on it since the Wallet was released (August 2013).”
The feature will not change the stats or the importance of equipment. Players still need to work hard to acquire the best equipment possible for their chosen characters. The Wardrobe tab will allow players to override the appearance of this equipment though.
Welch also announced a number of changes to the Transmutation system, which allows players to combine two pieces of equipment into one superior piece of equipment. The currency used for this, transmutation crystals and stones, have been simplified down to one piece of currency: transmutation charges. Players will also unlock the skins of each item being combined.
