We have to give it to them: Bohemia Interactive is a quick learner. Following the huge success of the DayZ mod for the previous installment of the franchise, Arma 2, the developers seem to be understanding the potential resources that the modding community has. As a consequence, Bohemia has just released a trailer, showcasing a huge competition for content creation for their latest game, Arma 3. The contest is entitled “Make Arma Not War” – which is somewhat ironic, since well, you know, Arma 3 is all about war and blowing people to bits virtually. I guess what they’re trying to say with the name is that you’re better off sitting at your desk and creating Arma 3 content than signing up with the military.
Bohemia has also launched a new website, makearmanotwar.com, where we’re likely to receive more details in the future about the rules and duration of their contest.
The competition will have a prize pool of €500.000 (not bad at all), and aims to use enthusiastic modders to extend the content available for their online military simulator. The contest will be split into 4 categories: Total Modification, Singleplayer Mode, Multiplayer Mode and Addon. Details about the rules of the competition can be found here. Submissions are accepted until the 28th of October 2014.
The prizes are awarded as follows:
Total Modification
€200,000 for the 1st place
Singleplayer Game Mode
€50,000 for the 1st place
€30,000 for the 2nd place
€20,000 for the 3rd place
Multiplayer Game Mode
€50,000 for the 1st place
€30,000 for the 2nd place
€20,000 for the 3rd place
Addon
€50,000 for the 1st place
€30,000 for the 2nd place
€20,000 for the 3rd place
We’re curious to see what fans of the massive online shooter will come up with! One thing’s for certain – in its current state, Arma 3 has huge potential, but it severely lacks content. And this competition hosted by Bohemia might just provide the solution to the problem!
