Assassin’s Creed Could Be Set In Ancient Rome For A Future Title

by GH Staff

The globe trotting action-adventure series could one day find its place in Ancient Rome, according to suggestions from comments made by Ubisoft Toronto’s Jade Raymond. In an interview with The Grid, mentioned by CVG, Raymond was asked to explain the series’ commercial success since its launch of the first title in 2007, this was her response:

“I think the key to a popular game is a good core fantasy. In Assassin’s Creed, there is the obvious part: Who doesn’t want to be a badass assassin? But then there is an additional element of getting to relive and play a role in these pivotal moments in history. We work with historians to recreate these societies-ancient Rome, the French Revolution. And because each game is crafted in a new era, players don’t get tired of it.”

This comment hints that other than the French Revolution, which we now know is the setting of this year’s game, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Ancient Rome could be the next stop on the series’ path. Little details have been revealed about the second title coming out this year, codenamed ‘Comet’, which has been rumored to be a game where you’ll play as a Templar. Comet would be only for current gen, Xbox 360 and PS3, whilst Unity would be for Xbox One and PS4. According to CVG, a survey in 2011 by Ubisoft determined that the rise of Caesar’s Empire in ancient Rome is one of the possible historical periods for an Assassin’s Creed backdrop. Other periods highlighted include medieval China, feudal Japan, Victorian England and the American Revolution.

Where would you like to see the series go next? Let us know in the comments.
