Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has sailed past the 10 million sales mark

Ubisoft’s sales might have been lower this year than one year before (you can read up on Ubisoft’s sales in our previous article), but Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is doing quite fine. During the company’s third quarter (ending in December 2013), Ubisoft reports that more than 10 million copies of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag have anchored on gamers’ shelves. That might seem like a great number (and, by all accounts, it is), but it’s actually less than what Assassin’s Creed III sold, despite being considered to be vastly superior to Connor’s adventure.

However, Black Flag seems to have “excellent momentum”, and could out-sell its predecessor in the long-run. One major reason behind this is the fact that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was launched on more platforms than the previous installment, and with continuing increases in Xbox One and Playstation 4 sales, it’s likely to keep selling well. In fact, for the last 6 weeks of the quarter, the latest Assassin’s Creed title has been selling better.

Assassin's Creed 3 might not have been as good as Black Sails is, but it did better in sales so far!

Based on these numbers, it’s safe to assume that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will out-sell its predecessor in the long run, and it actually deserves to. In most regards, it’s a superior game, and the amounts of DLCs available for it now and in the future will most likely make it a good investment. In other related news, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot highlighted the same trends with other titles, such as Just Dance 2014, which also is doing more poorly than its predecessor, Just Dance 4. The Difference here is 6 million units sold compared to 8 million units sold for the latter.
