I’m happy. If you’re an Assassin’s Creed fan here’s hoping that you’ll be happy too after reading the latest details to come forth about the new game, Assassin’s Creed Unity, courtesy of Game Informer. Speaking of details, here they are:
- Apparently skill leveling is a go, allowing players to put points into stealth, combat, and navigation abilities. Assasin’s Creed Unity has been showing off customization in the past months and I’m happy to see that there will be even more customization come the game’s release. So essentially players can make their assassin a rogue-type of guy or just a fighting tank that’s really good at, well, fighting. And of course there’s the possibility of mixing it up and making an awesome hybrid of a character that suits your ideal playthrough.
- You can now customize your legs, forearms, boots, hood, chest and mask to your liking, making your assassin stand out or blend in according to your preference. Armor and clothing now have certain attributes as well, such as a hood that allows you to blend into a crowd better or a belt that allows you to carry more items and weapons.
- There is now co-op. And no, I’m not referring to the multiplayer campaign of Assassin Creed games of past, I mean that while you play story missions, a buddy will be able to join you. You can team up and explore the world together and do assassin things that assassins do, namely killing people. If you’ve played Watch Dogs then you might have an idea of how this multiplayer thing will work out. Basically in your game, you will look like Arno, the AC: Unity protagonist. But whoever joins you on missions will look like regular Brotherhood members. Same goes for the other player, in which you will look like a brotherhood regular Joe in their game, and he/she will be Arno.
- There are now…wait for it… NO MORE AUTOFAIL MISSIONS! The missions will be adapting to the decisions you make during the mission in case you decide not to follow the script. Meaning that if you get spotted when you’re not supposed to get spotted the game will NOT desynchronize, but give you certain penalties. Thank God for fewer headaches.
- You can now rapidly descend from buildings instead of constantly jumping into haystacks every time you need to get down in a hurry. The haystacks will still be in the game, just not as prevalent as they were in the past. Also new with buildings is that they’re now made in a way that opens up the game more. If your’e being chased for example, you could hide in one and wait for the guards to run past, then just simply walk out. Though there may be guards inside the building that you’re hiding in so choose wisely!
- Stealth is more responsive, and you can now move very quickly whenever you’re in stealth mode. There’s a new cover system being implemented that allows you to peek from wherever you’re hiding as well. And guards in Assassin’s Creed Unity will not have any ungodly clairvoyance, knowing exactly where you are at all times. Now they will search your last known location, making your escapes a little easier.
- It seems that combat will finally be a challenge. Taking on 1-3 guys will be hard, but possible. But if you find yourself fighting large groups of enemies, or even just 5 guys, you’ll most likely lose. Fighting will include a lot more parrying at the right time, more dodging, and most importantly NOT spamming the attack button this time. I personally like this approach as I think it will make fighting more rewarding, not like you’re in a Jackie Chan movie taking on 10 people. (Though that admittedly feels cool as well).
There’s one more thing. Apparently Assassin’s Creed Unity will be starting a “new cycle” as far as the present-day stuff is concerned, saying that “you are the protagonist ultimately.” Apparently we’ll know what that means within the first 20 minutes of playing. I personally think that you’ll be playing as “yourself”, sort of the same way you played as a random Abstergo employee in Black Flag. That would make sense for the information regarding skin color customization released a while back. Either way it looks like we’ll have to wait for the full release of the game to know for sure. Assassin’s Creed Unity will be released on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms on October 28th.
