A quick glance over Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s requirements shows that Ubisoft’s minimum and recommended PC specifications are much higher than what has come to be expected from PC versions of AAA games, disproportionately so.
In fact, taking a closer look at Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s PC minimum/recommended requirements (specifically the graphics card) and comparing them with those of recent PC releases reveals that Ubisoft’s confirmed specifications for the game are entirely unprecedented.

A Reddit user, generic2134, on r/Games had a similar line of thought and, for the sake of comparison, decided to lay out the minimum and recommended graphics cards of recent and upcoming games (using only NVIDIA GPU’s for ease of comparison) – View his findings below:
- (2/25/2014) – Thief: GTS 250 minimum/GTX 660 recommended
- (5/20/2014) – Wolfenstein: GTX 460/GTX 460
- (5/27/2014) – Watch_Dogs: GTX 460/GTX 560ti
- (9/30/2014) – Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor: GTX 460/GTX 660
- (11/03/2014) – Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare: GTS 450/GTX 760
- (11/11/2014) – Assassin’s Creed: Unity: GTX 680/GTX 780
- (11/18/2014) – Dragon Age: Inquisition: 8800 GT/GTX 660
If Assassin’s Creed Unity is excluded from the above list, the highest minimum GPU requirement is the GTX 460 (which is the minimum card for 3 of the games mentioned) – the GTX 460 released in 2010 as was marketed as a mainstream performance gaming card.
If Assassin’s Creed Unity is, once again, excluded from the list, the highest recommended graphics card is the GTX 760 (recommended only by one game – Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare) – the GTX 760 was released last year as a mainstream performance gaming card.
According to Anandtech’s graphics card hierarchy chart, the NVIDIA GTX 760 is 2 tiers below the minimum GPU requirement for Assassin’s Creed Unity – the GTX 680.
This ultimately amounts to the fact that the highest recommended card from the list of games show above does not meet Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s minimum card requirement and is, as previously mentioned, 2 entire tiers below it.
In closing, generic2134, had the following to say about Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s PC specifications:
“Given the hardware limitations of the Xbox One and the PS4, these specs simply do not make sense. Even with the recent history of bad PC ports, there has been significant consistency in minimum and recommended specs. AC:Unity’s specs blow everything out of the water.
I fully expect Ubisoft to retract these PC specs once they realize the silly mistake they’ve made. If I am wrong and Ubisoft goes forward with these specs — well then, we are in for a show.”
Assassin’s Creed Unity is releasing on November 11th (NA) and November 13th (EU). The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
What are your thoughts on Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s minimum and recommended PC requirements? Do you think Ubisoft made a mistake in their confirmation of them? Why or why not?
