Bandai Namco Becomes the First Third-Party Developer to Use Amiibo

by GH Staff

Bandai Namco has announced that it will be supporting Amiibo for one of its current 3DS titles.

The 3DS title is the newest One Piece game called One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X, which will now support select Amiibo figures.

The title will support the Mario, Luigi, Fox McCloud, and Link Amiibo figures, and will allow select characters in the game to dress up as said Nintendo characters.

This marks the first third-party developer to utilize the Amiibo figures in one of their games, and could be the beginning of a new trend. As One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X has only been released in Japan so far, the usage of Amiibo figures are still tied only to first-party Nintendo games everywhere else in the world.

The Amiibo figures are currently available world wide, with new figures to be released this month and in early 2015. Meanwhile, One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X is currently available on 3DS in Japan with no word on a release to different territories as of this time.
