Blizzard’s Battle.net service is having authentication issues today as hundred of angry gamers are clambering over each other wondering what’s going on. Reports of failed login attempts or waits of over 15 minutes to login are rampant as gamers attempt to play games such as Hearthstone and World of Warcraft. The message displayed in the Battle.net client specifies that there is an issue affecting their authentication servers, which may result in failed or slow login attempts, and Blizzard is investigating what is going on.
With the recent DDoS attacks by Lizard Squad on Sony’s PSN network over Christmas, people are speculating that Blizzard may be experiencing a similar attack. Blizzard hasn’t acknowledged that this is the case, however the investigation seems to suggest that something out of the ordinary is going on. It wouldn’t be the first time Battle.net has been attacked, they previously experienced a DDoS attack at the hands of Lizard Squad back in August.
