Today Visceral Games announced that Battlefield Hardline will be delayed. Instead of coming out in the fall of 2014, Battlefield Hardline will release in early 2015. The delay will only push the game back a few months, but for hungry gamers who expect big titles to drop in the fall this is a bit of a disappointment.
Though it is unfortunate, the developers have pretty good reasons for delaying this release. Feedback from gamers at E3 and the millions who played the Battlefield Hardline Beta has given thee devs an extremely large amount of information to deal with. Visceral games want to use all of this input to change Battlefield Hardline for the better but to do so the company feels it needs more time. No one wants another disastrous Battlefield launch.
With this extra time, Visceral Games will improve the multiplayer as planned and most likely add components to the gameplay to make this title differ more from Battlefield 4. Many beta players complained that the game was largely a copy and paste job. Visceral also seeks to deepen the single player experience to ensure it offers a story and gameplay not yet experienced by gamers. Finally, stability is a big focus. Visceral Games wants its first Battlefield title to be a success from the start. Instead of rushing its release like D.I.C.E. and EA did with Battlefield 4, VG wants to take its time making a quality product.
So, we may have to wait a few more months but we have a lot to consider here. A little more time will more likely give us a better game that will feel all the fresher coming months after the other Triple-A titles are out. This could potentially give Battlefield Hardline a competitive edge. Also, considering Battlefield titles typically release every two years we are still receiving a new title early than we traditionally would.
What do you think? Will more time to improve the game be worth it? Or do you want it now? Let me know in the comments!
