Professor Suchong, another character seemingly devoid of empathy in the Bioshock world, will likely be showing up at some point. Mentioning his name to Atlas provided Elizabeth with an escape from execution in the trailer, so it’s safe to say we’ll be forced to meet him at some point. Again, he’s someone we never actually got to encounter in person, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Irrational go about evolving his personality. I’d imagine Elizabeth won’t react well to his forced indoctrination and abuse of little sisters, so don’t expect to find an ally in the disturbing scientist.
It’s also been announced Daisy Fitzroy will be featured in the DLC, and this is probably one of the more ambiguous roles. Without the oppression and racism of Columbia, it would seem Fitzroy wouldn’t have a place as a revolutionary freedom-fighter in Rapture. She might see prospects in joining with Atlas, and it’s quite evident to draw similarities between the two (or, the ‘personality’ of Atlas anyway). Since we killed her in Infinite, how she’ll react to Elizabeth is perhaps one of the most perplexing situations to think about, but it’ll no doubt provide some highly stimulating developments.
There’s a colossal host of other characters who have great potential to play a part in Burial at Sea – Episode 2. Cornelius Slate and Steinmann both present likeable threats, but since we’ve seen and defeated them before I’d think them unlikely. The malfunctioning mother and daughter duo, Sophia and Eleanor Lamb would also be odd but interesting choices, though I think them a little out of place with the storyline so far, and I doubt Elizabeth would have many reasons to cross paths with them. Bridget Tenenbaum, however, would appear to be a more than suitable encounter for our time-twisting protagonist, and I can clearly envisage Elizabeth sympathising with her regretful past – they both have the salvation of little sisters in mind, so it could be a productive comradeship.
Also a possible candidate for a companion is Bill McDonagh, the central protagonist from the prequel novel, Bioshock: Rapture. Honest, hard-working and good-at-heart, Bill possesses a personality that some might say wasn’t done justice in the games, since he’s dead before we even arrive in Rapture. Seeing him for the first time would be an exciting addition, and I’d personally love to see old McDonagh in a fist fight with some splicers.
Perhaps most intriguing of all people to meet, however, would be our pseudo-mother, Lady Comstock. Taking into account that Burial at Sea intends to be the conclusion of the Infinite story-arc, it would indisputably be a logical choice to have Elizabeth finally meet the woman who both terrified and hated her. Once more, this would perhaps be tricky to link into the plot, but with Bioshock nothings impossible. On the flip side, two characters which are almost guaranteed to appear in Episode 2 are the Lutece twins, since they pretty much act as a pair of eccentric, universe-hopping narrators, never getting too involved but always there to observe.
So with such a huge amount of faces to bump into, Irrational certainly have the materials for a mind-blowing ending to their third instalment in the stellar series. Whatever happens in Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2, you can be sure that it’ll contain surprises and shocks you won’t have thought of until they smack you in the face. Here’s to hoping we get to see some of these outstandingly unique characters before we tip our hats in goodbye, at least for now, to Bioshock.
Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2 is out on the 25th of March, 2014.
