With so many smartphones already in the market one still feels the need for more and better ones. These phones which are now referred to as phablets have huge display screens, both front and back cameras and the latest operating systems to boot. But one still needs to decide which one is better. Blackberry Z3
It is the newest addition to the Blackberry 10 device. This is their third phone of the series after Blackberry Z10 and Z30.
Design and display
Z3 has a plastic body but gives a premium look, even better than Blackberry Z30. It has a 5 inch screen, weighs 154 grams and has a depth of about 9.3mm. It has a good screen resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The port for micro SIM and micro SD card are on the right and all the other buttons are on the left hand side of the phone. It has a nice textured back. The Blackberry indicator is on the front which is helpful in customizing colours for different notifications.
Specifications, Camera and Battery
The Z3 comes with Blackberry 10.2.1 OS upgradeable to 10.3 OS and a dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait 200 CPU. It has 1.5 GB RAM on board with 500 MB free for apps. The phone comes with a 5 MP camera along with flash. Focus speed is average and it takes a while to get into sharp focus. Z3 has a non-removable battery. But since the battery is a 2500 mAh, it can go on for a long duration.
Nokia XL
The Nokia XL falls under the Phablet category.
Design and Display
It has a simple build with nothing flashy. It has a 5 inch WVGA display which works better for the XL model than it did for Nokia X. But the screen density is very low at 189 ppi which comes into play mainly while reading texts. It has Nokia’s signature design of a plastic wrap around shell. All power keys are on the right side of the phone. The SIM card slot and micro SD card slot can be accessed by popping open the back cover.
Specifications, Camera and Battery
Nokia XL carries a 1 GHz dual-core snapdragon processor, 768 MB of RAM and 4 GB internal storage which is extendable. It has a 5 MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera for people using skype and for selfies. It supports a Nokia X software platform 1.0.1 which may be based on Android open source platform but is nowhere as clean as iOS7 or Android KitKat. It has a 2000 mAh battery.
Overall
Both the phones being 5 inches fall under the phablet category. The choice depends on your comfort with blackberry in comparison with Android operating system. Blackberry 10 has received many negative reviews and also faces problems syncing with Google. The best feature of the phone is the battery life which gives up to one and a half day’s use and its solid body. But when compared to Nokia it doesn’t hold ground because of its price.
