There’s been a lot of news regarding World of Warcraft lately. From the consideration of a sequel to the subscription fee being raised in the UK. There’s no shortage of news, and here’s some more!
Game director Tom Chilton has stated that Blizzard already has concepts for around “six or seven” World of Warcraft expansions. Considering the fanbase of the popular MMO has been declined steadily, maybe bringing some of these conceptualizations into actuality will boost subscribers. The latest expansion pack Warlords of Draenor is scheduled to release on November 16th. Despite this, Chilton states that there’s at least ten years of “stuff” that Blizzard can draw from in terms of ideas for expansions.
“If there are enough players demanding that we make more content, then we’re likely to do so. I think it’ll be quite a while before the financials indicate that it’s just not worth doing anymore.”
Fair enough Chilton, if the players want more content, then it’s up to you to deliver it. Just keep an eye on your sales to make sure it’s worth it.
World of Warcraft has already made it ten years, Chilton feels confident in asserting that it could easily make that 20 years. Here’s a another quote regarding the amount of content Chilton has planned:
“We are already in progress with our next expansion. We already have zones in production for it. Our next expansion after that, we have a couple of different options that we’ll be choosing between over the next several months. Beyond that, there are about six or seven different ideas for expansions that we can take elements of and say, ‘You know what? Let’s take that and put it in this one for our next expansion after the next one.’ Or we might shift the timelines around from what we originally envisioned. There’s easily 10 years worth of stuff that we can draw from – more, really.”
From what we’ve heard, and the upcoming expansion pack, World of Warcraft is going strong, and if Chilton has anything to say about it, that isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
