Bravely Default developer shows mind-blowing next-gen engine demo

by GH Staff

Did you think current Xbox One or PS4 titles count as next-gen? Well, think again, because what Silicon Studio is showing us today is out of this world (at least out of today’s gaming world). The studio behind the popular and successful Bravely Default 3DS game (still think it’s a silly title) has revealed a short tech demo, showcasing its new rendering engine, an engine that pretty much redefines the term next-gen. Of course, take this with a grain of salt, as it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing this tech in games any time soon. Still, it’s definitely casting a very positive light on the future of gaming.

Silicon Studios is, as seen in the video, hiring staff, which would suggest they are both working to make this future rendering engine into a full fledged game and are planning on expanding and further refining the technology. The company is still working on a Bravely Default sequel, but it seems their ambitions go far beyond their partnership with Square Enix and developing for Nintendo’s 3DS. In truth, we haven’t seen anything this good to date, and not even the latest Unreal Engine demos compare in terms of visual quality.

If you’re interested in working in the field and have the necessary skills to make this next-gen tech demo a reality, feel free to visit Silicon Studio’s career-page. What are your feelings about the tech demo? Do you think the Xbox One and PS4 can handle this level of graphics? In fact, can we realistically expect current generation PC hardware to cope with the level of detail seen? Make sure to leave us your thoughts in the comment section below or on our forums.
