Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – Optimism at Activision

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny are this year's best-selling games, says Activision

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is expected to continue the downfall of the CoD franchise, but Activision’s CEO thinks differently.

I’m going to assume we’re all aware of the predicament Call of Duty has been in of late, what with disintegrating fan base and a lowered interest in the franchise as a whole. Much like the fall of Rome, Call of Duty doesn’t seem to be imploding in on itself all at once, but as demand rises above Activision’s capability to supply, CoD may find itself bled out by paper cuts in the coming years. Fans are saying it, analysts are saying it, but rest assured that Activision isn’t about to recognize the illnesses of its sacred cow.

In response to both a drop in pre-orders for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and doom-preaching analysts, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg is keeping his head above the water of a half-full glass.

“We see purchase intent well above last year and we see engagement with the brand in social media channels all being markedly up, so I’m still optimistic. Preorders are a good barometer for day one, but I don’t think they reflect the overall demand for the product,” he adds. “[They] don’t represent what they used to – because of the move to digital and all the ways people can buy the game.”

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is coming out today, so we’ll know for sure soon enough if Hirshberg’s optimism is justified.

Tell me, readers, what do you think is going to become of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare? Will the game sink or swim? What do you think will become of Call of Duty as a franchise?
