Carmageddon: Reincarnation was initially meant to drop on Steam back in February, 2013 after a very successful Kickstarter, which managed to raise over $625,000 / £373,000. However, it was announced by the game’s developers, Stainless Games (the creator of the original Carmageddon), back in December, 2012 that the scope of Carmageddon: Reincarnation’s development was going to be expanded upon, and thus its February, 2013 release date was pushed back by just over an entire year. In September, 2013 it was announced that the PC version of the game would be dropping on Steam in Q1 of 2014.

Flash forward to now, and we find ourselves in that Q1 of 2014, and in a press release published last Friday (February 28) it was announced by Stainless Games that the long-awaited car carnage-fest will finally be dropping on Steam’s Early Access on the 27th of this month, which is on a Thursday. For the backers who backed Carmageddon: Reincarnation’s Kickstarter, you will receive access to the game a whole two weeks before the game launches on Early Access.

“It’s brilliant to see our demonic baby rise screaming from the grave,” said Patrick Buckland, co-founder and CEO of Stainless Games. “This time we could finally do the stuff that we wanted to do 17 years ago. More blood was the main thing. Rivers of livers – that’s what we wanted. Being publisher as well as developer means we get to be stupid. Properly, professionally stupid. And this game is stupider than Jupiter. I mean  really silly – but in a good way. Nobody else makes games that make you cry with laughter – but we do. And did I mention the livers?”

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is still in in the pre-Alpha stages of development, which is to say that those who dive into the game’s Early Access shouldn’t expect the game to anywhere near close to being finished, despite how long it actually has been in development (over two years) and how much money has been thrown at it (over $4.1 million / £2.3 million, if you count the contribution from Bullfrog founder Les Edgar to bring Carmageddon: Reincarnation next-gen consoles). Keep a close eye on Steam’s Early Access within the coming weeks if you’d like to get your hands on the blood-splattering driving free-for-all that is Stainless Games’ latest Carmageddon incarnation.
