Apple is one the most preferred names when it comes to tablets. The iPad range of tablets is widely considered one of the most popular worldwide. Over the years, Apple has launched a number of versions of the device and most of them have remained a hit with users. This article will take a look at two of the latest iPads, theiPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3 which were launched by Apple in September this year.
The iPad Air 2 is capable of running faster than the iPad Mini 3 and features a high performance A8 chip for processing and a quality M8 chip to co assist the A8. The Mini 3 runs on older versions of chips, the A7 and its co-processor, the M7.
The iPadAir model also features a high quality 8 MP rear camera. Resolution provided by the iPad Air is also better than the iPad Mini. In terms of hardware specifications, the iPad Air is much better when compared to the iPad Mini.
The Mini 3 features a touch ID fingerprint sensor. It is also compatible with Apple Pay, although only over Wi-Fi and does not have a built in NFC chip as seen in the latest iPhones. The device is also available in a brilliant gold finish and many users seem to prefer this color option. The Air 2 features many added features and functions over and above those provided by the Mini 3. It allows for photography in burst mode and is also capable of capturing videos in slow motion. The Air 2 offers improved image production capabilities to users as compared to the Mini 3.
When it comes to pricing, as expected the iPad Mini 3 is less expensive than the iPad Air 2. The Mini 3 retails at a starting price of $399 while the Air 2 starts off at $499. Both these devices are available in different variants of 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. In order that the device features Wi-Fi, users will have to shell out an additional $130 over the basic cost. With the iPad Mini 3 having launched after the iPad Air 2, it provides lesser features and functionality and is thus lesser priced.
However, the iPad Mini 3 does not feature too many upgrades from its predecessor, the Mini 2. The major difference between the two lies in the addition of Appleās touch ID sensor. There are also rumors of a new iPad Pro to be launched by Apple later next year. If this turns out to be true, it may lead to the discontinuation of the older Mini models, although there is no evidence to believe so at present.
Both the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 offer great features to users. Users will need to decide on what features are necessary to them and make a choice in between the devices. However, many consumers have decided to wait it out and see if the rumors for the iPad Pro hold true.
