A Comparison Between The Moto X And The Nexus 5

Both the Moto X and the Nexus 5 were great smartphones which were launched earlier last year. Both the devices have been lauded by users and critics and many people still seek to buy these devices even after one year of their launch. This article will compare both the devices and also look to see why they have remained so popular.

 

Both these devices feature a rubber material on the back and have a similar body shape providing for three touch buttons below the display. The Moto X, however, is shorter and thicker than the Nexus 5 and measures 129.3 mm by 65.3 mm by 10.4 mm. It weighs in at 130 grams. The Nexus 5 has physical dimensions of 137.9 mm by 69.2 mm by 8.6 mm. It weighs the same as the Moto X.

The Nexus 5 sports a 4.95 inch True HD and IPS display. It offers a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels with a density of 445 ppi. The Moto X features a 4.7 inch AMOLED display capable of supporting resolutions of 720 by 1280 pixels at a density of 312 ppi. Both the displays of the devices are protected by corning Gorilla Glass of different sizes.

In terms of hardware, the Nexus 5 outperforms the Moto X by far. The Moto X features a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset clocked in at 1.7 GHz. The device features an Adreno 320 chip for graphics processing and offers 2 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the Nexus 5 features a powerful quad core Krait processor, which clocks in at 2.3 GHz. The Nexus also provides a newer Adreno 330 chip for the GPU and features 2 GB of RAM. The devices both run on the Android Lollipop 5 OS provided by Google.

 

These devices do not allow for additional micro SD card storage. The Nexus 5 is available in two variants of 16 GB and 32 GB capacity, while the Moto X offers 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB variants.

In terms of camera, the Moto X features a 10 MP rear camera with features including autofocus, an LED flash and HDR capabilities. It also provides for a 2 MP front camera. The Nexus 5 features an 8 MP rear camera with technology for stabilization of optical images. The device features a 1.3 MP front camera. Both the devices are capable of recording high definition 1080p videos. In addition, the Moto X also allows for panoramic shots.

The Moto X is equipped with a 2000 mAh battery which is also removable and provides for 567 hours of standby and 13 hours of talk time. The Nexus 5 features a non-replaceable 2300 mAh battery providing for 17 hours of talk time.

In terms of retail pricing, the 16 GB variant of the Moto X costs $400 while the 16 GB Nexus 5 is available for $393. Both devices are available on Amazon. The Nexus 5 is featured in the white, black and red color finish options, while the Moto X is available in black and white finish options.
