Valve released a Counter-Strike 2 update on September 22, 2026 that adds a new game mode called Rush. The update is titled “Rush Hour,” and Valve announced the patch on the Counter-Strike 2 Steam Community page. The patch also changes Premier map selection and adds several quality of life updates, gameplay tweaks, a new Music Kit and the return of Clan Tags.
How the new Rush mode works
Rush is a fast-paced 3v3 queued mode with no fixed arena order. In each match, teams advance through a gauntlet of randomly selected battle arenas. Because battle arenas are randomly selected each time you play, no two matches are the same. Players have a limited budget and limited time to clear the objective. A team controls the tower by eliminating the enemy team, or when time expires, to win the round. The goal is to capture the enemy castle to win the match. A Rush friends leaderboard tracks wins and lets players compete for bragging rights.
Premier map voting and crosshair changes
Premier map selection has changed. Instead of banning down to a single map, teams vote to pick two maps each. After all four maps are picked, a single map is randomly selected and the match begins. This replaces the previous system of banning down to a single map. Crosshairs received an upgrade with new shapes and other features. New Crosshair/Scopes settings let players build a custom crosshair.
Gameplay adjustments, Clan Tags and music
Several gameplay adjustments are included. Reloading can now be performed silently by holding the reload key, but silent reloads take longer. Unscoping a scoped weapon is now perfectly silent. Valve also improved blood and bullet impact visibility. Valve wrote in the announcement that blood is now “much more bloody” and bullet impacts are “far more impacty.” Clan Tags are back. Players can select one of their Steam Groups in their player profile, and the clan tag appears next to their name wherever they play. A new Music Kit featuring Starjunk 95 is available now. Valve described the music as coming from “the grooviest station in the galaxy.”
