According to the official Facebook page, Dark Souls II is coming to PC and Steam on April 25. While it may come a little more than a month after the console release, the PC version will feature a much higher resolution than both the 360 and PS3 versions. The original Dark Souls for PC was a direct console port, and only ran in 1024×720 at 30fps. Where the original had clunky controls, FromSoftware has built this unforgiving sequel specifically for PC, with improved native keyboard-and-mouse support. Of course, if that doesn’t fit the player’s fancy, Dark Souls II will also include controller support.
While it’s in the player’s necessary interest to play Dark Souls and/or Demon’s Souls before embarking on this challenging journey, Dark Souls II is not a direct sequel. The upcoming installment is set within the same world as its predecessor, but features a different protagonist, searching for a way to lift a curse from his undead body. Dark Souls II is already available to pre-purchase through Steam; those who do will receive several in-game and digital extras:
Pre-purchasing grants an additional 10 weapons and shields, listed below:
- Black Flamestone Dagger
- Black Flamestone Parma
- Yellow Quartz Longsword
- Yellow Quartz Shield
- Bound Hand Axe
- Bound Wooden Shield
- Homunculus Mace
- Homunculus Wooden Shield
- Transgressor’s Staff

Players will also receive digital copies of the 35-track original soundtrack, the Official Dark Souls II Artbook as a PDF, and the Dark Souls II comic book. Dark Souls II releases next week- March 11- for PS3 and Xbox 360, with the PC version coming on April 25. It may be coming over a month later, but do you think Dark Souls II will be worth the wait?
